This happens because the initial shot will damage the enemy and send arcs of damage to nearby enemies, but the shot will continue traveling until it has reached its pierce limit. So, you can't really say they don't excel at killing anything except bosses especially with that bio bomb and antidote. Mobbing is not a difficult thing to do for anybody. They still basically still suck at killing bosses and it only takes them a lot longer in comparison to the other classes. Pretty sure if you equipment medics with proton arc or strippers.
